WHERE NATURE SHAPES THE EXPERIENCE

Pezula Nature Retreat

A commissioned photography project capturing the relationship between luxury hospitality, indigenous forest and the dramatic coastline of South Africa's Garden Route.

Destination

Understanding the identity of a place before creating the imagery that represents it.

Photography

Creating imagery that reflects the atmosphere, character and experience of a destination.

Hospitality

Capturing the moments where landscape, architecture and guest experience become one.

Some destinations invite you to slow down.

Nestled between ancient indigenous forest and the Indian Ocean, Pezula Nature Retreat is shaped by the landscapes that surround it. Contemporary architecture, natural materials and thoughtful hospitality create an experience that feels both refined and deeply connected to nature.

Commissioned to document the retreat through photography, my approach was to capture more than its spaces. From the quiet elegance of the interiors to the surrounding forest, coastline and guest experience, the imagery was created to communicate the atmosphere of the destination with authenticity and restraint.

Together, these photographs present a retreat where luxury is defined not by excess, but by a meaningful connection to place.

The pool at Pezula doesn't compete with the view. It simply extends it, one reflection at a time, all the way to the Knysna Lagoon in the distance.Nikon Z7_2 | ISO-1000 | f/6.3 | 1/1000 sec. | 24mm

About This Project

Between indigenous forest and the coastline of South Africa's Garden Route, overlooking the Knysna Lagoon.

What did this commission involve?

Photography capturing the relationship between the retreat's hospitality, its surrounding forest and the Garden Route coastline.

Do you photograph wellness and spa spaces?

Yes, wellness imagery is part of several of my hospitality commissions, including the yoga studio and spa spaces at Pezula.

Can you capture a destination's wider setting, not just the property itself?

Yes, I usually place a destination within its landscape rather than photographing it in isolation, since that context is often what makes it memorable.

How do I commission similar work for a coastal or forest retreat?

Get in touch and tell me about the property and what you'd like the images to achieve.
